REP. MICHAEL NELSON TO CHAIR HOUSE LOCAL GOVERNMENT COMMITTEE

ST. PAUL – State Representative Michael Nelson, Brooklyn Park, has been appointed Chair of the House Local Government Committee by House Speaker Margaret Anderson-Kelliher. Nelson, first elected in 2002, will chair the committee for the 2009-10 Legislative Biennium, which began on Tuesday, January 6th.
“Whether it’s public safety, education or any important public service, local government plays a critical role," said Nelson. “It’s an honor to lead a committee that can help improve the way government delivers valuable services to Minnesotans.”
As Chair, Nelson said he will work to improve the coordination between state and local government.
“We need to look for ways to improve the important relationship that exists between local and state government,” said Nelson. “I am optimistic we can move forward on valuable reforms this session that can make state and local government work together more effectively and efficiently.”
Along with the Chairmanship, Nelson will serve on several committees including: Ways and Means, Labor and Consumer Protection, State and Local Government Operations Reform, Technology and Elections and Transportation Finance and Policy.
