Hi everybody,
I just wanted to give you a quick reminder that my town meetings are
coming up this Saturday, March 15. Senator Katie Sieben will join me at
the Hastings and Cottage Grove stops.
The meetings will be held in Hastings at the City Hall, 101 4th Street,
from 9:00-10:30 a.m.; in Cottage Grove at the City Hall, 7516 80th
Street S., from 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.; and in Afton at the Afton House
from 1:00-2:00 p.m.
Also, my legislative survey has been printed, and should arrive
in your mailbox later this week. If you do not receive a survey, please
let me know. The questionnaire I send every year allows my constituents
to comment on important issues that will likely be debated by the
Legislature this year. Your input always helps influence my decision.
If you need a copy, call my office at (651) 296-3135 or drop me an email
at rep.denny.mcnamara@house.mn and I’ll see that you get one.
At the Capitol, Governor Pawlenty has presented his plan that would
eliminate our $935 million state budget deficit. Very simply, the
Governor wants to reduce the growth in state spending by $341 million,
use $250 million of the $653 million budget reserve, and use $250
million from the surplus in the Health Care Access Fund to maintain
health care programs and eligibility for the disadvantaged.
Most state agencies would receive a four percent cut to their operating
budgets under the Governor’s plan, and a number of state programs
would also see reductions. K-12 education and Local Government Aid
would not see cuts under his proposal.
Hopefully, House and Senate leadership will finalize their budget
elimination plans soon, so we can get down to business and solve this
shortfall as it is now our top priority for the remainder of session.
Have a great week, and I hope to see you at my town meetings on
Saturday the 15th!
Denny
