NEWS AND VIEWS FROM REP. DENNY McNAMARA

Hi everybody,

In my last email update, I mentioned my recommendation to Governor Pawlenty that he order an inspection of the Highway 61 Hastings bridge as soon as possible. I'm now pleased to report that he has taken action.

The inspection, which will be conducted by a private consulting firm, is scheduled to begin on August 20. According to the Governor's Office, this work involves three inspection teams and is estimated to take about two weeks. It will be like previous inspections where the bridge will be down to one lane from 9AM-3PM Mon-Fri with a flag person at each end. I do recommend using an alternate route or time if possible. I eagerly await their findings, and as soon as a report is available I will be sure to share the information with you.

This review will also temporarily push back another needed Highway 61 project. The concrete media barrier construction plan, which was scheduled to begin this week, will now begin September 5 in order to accommodate the Hastings bridge inspectors. You'll recall the barrier will be constructed north of the Hastings Bridge on Highway 61. MnDOT tells me that the barrier should be in place by the end of September.
