Hi everybody,
Rivertown Days
It was great seeing so many people out and about at the Hastings Rivertown Days a couple of weeks back. While I'm sure the heat and humidity kept some people at home, I enjoyed visiting with those who did make it out and took part in the activities. Another great job by everyone who helped organize Rivertown Days and once again made this event a success.
National Night Out
Just a reminder that National Night Out is this Tuesday, August 1st. I encourage you to join your neighbors and friends "to say goodbye to crime, drugs and violence in our communities." At this time, I am planning to attend events in Cottage Grove and Hastings so I hope to see you there!
For the City of Cottage Grove, the celebration will start at 5:00 p.m. at Kingston Park. For details and directions, go to http://www.cottagegrove.org/police_national_night_out.htm>
Hastings will have a number of neighborhood gatherings on Tuesday night. For more information or to see the listing of events, go to http://www.hastingsstargazette.com and look for the feature on National Night Out. The Gazette will not have the information posted until later Thursday evening or Friday morning. Since the schedule can change and locations may be added, I recommend checking the site on Tuesday morning to get the most updated schedule.
New Laws
August 1st is also the day many new laws will be taking effect. In all, there were 113 bills signed into law during the 2006 session. For more information, check out www.house.mn/hinfo/Newlaws2006-0.asp.
Economic News
In case you hadn't heard, some extremely positive developments regarding Minnesota's job growth were released recently. During the second quarter of 2006, Minnesota had its highest quarterly gain in 22 years, and it represented 10 percent of the nation's overall job creation. In all, there were 14,700 new jobs created in June. This shows that Minnesota's economy is doing well. More people are working and more business owners are creating jobs - and that's fantastic news for all of us.
Hope all is well with you and your family. Take care.
