St. Paul, Minnesota – Minority Leader Paul Thissen has appointed State Rep. John Lesch (DFL – St. Paul) minority lead on the House Civil Law Committee. Lesch, who served last session as the House Chair on Crime Victims/Criminal Records, said he will advocate vigorously for consumers and workers in his new role.
“Minnesota is witness to an assault on working folks not seen since the roaring twenties when robber barons made their fortunes on the backs of the poor. Today, we have a greater separation of wealth and poverty, and a diminishing commitment to the rights of working people more dire than we’ve had in five generations. We should prioritize retirement savings over bank mergers, civil rights over profit, and people over corporations. Minnesotans are strong because our forebears valued civil liberties and consumer protections. DFLers on the House Civil Law Committee will honor that tradition. Our role will be to work hard on behalf of all Minnesotans to make sure our civil liberties and consumer rights are protected," said Lesch. “People – not corporations – are my priority and that’s who we’ll stand up and fight for during the coming legislative session.”
Rep. Lesch was appointed a Minority Whip by Minority Leader Paul Thissen earlier this month. As a member of the House DFL leadership team, Lesch looked forward to the hard work of the coming session.
“Minnesotans face serious challenges and we should face them openly and honestly,” said Lesch. “I hope the incoming Republican majority will soon share their ideas about how we should balance the budget and create jobs. It’s our priority in the House DFL caucus we balance the budget without harming our kids, seniors or middle class families who are already stretched too thin. We are ready to get to work.”
