LETTER TO THE EDITOR

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

From Representative Joe Hoppe
Chaska and Chanhassen

To the Editor,

During his State of the State Address to members of the Legislature, Governor Pawlenty re-emphasized his support to keep a lid on taxes in Minnesota. I support his position.

A slow economy and risings costs for everyday items like food and gasoline are putting enough strain on the wallets of Minnesotans. In addition, the downturn in the housing industry is having a ripple effect on jobs throughout the state. Now more than ever, we need to have taxpayers in mind during this legislative session.

In 2007 we were able to fend off more than $5 billion in tax increases. This year, on the first day of the 2008 session, taxpayers were hit with another massive tax increase proposal that would take more than $7 billion out of our wallets and out of the economy.

Keeping taxes low and promoting a strong economy are some of the basic responsibilities of our government. As the session unfolds, I will work to fulfill those responsibilities and protect Minnesotans from an onslaught of crushing tax increases.

Sincerely,

Joe Hoppe
State Representative
Chaska and Chanhassen
