The state general fund revenues for January 2005 are out, and, according to Representative David Dill (DFL-Crane Lake) the news isn't all bad.
"At a time when we are looking under every rock for a dollar, this is a little flicker of good news" said Rep. Dill. "The actual revenues were higher than were predicted in most areas, giving us more of a cushion than we expected."
The latest state revenue figures were $88 million above the forecasted amounts for January 2005. The biggest increases were over $67 million in state income tax, $13 million in sales tax and almost $15 million in corporate income tax.
The revenues from this year will be used to base next year's forecast on, which also is a good thing when it comes to planning, according to Dill. "This increase in revenues will also allow us to refill the cash flow account and possibly use the balance for repaying the school shifts of 2003," said Dill.
The down side of this report was that employment figures for the same period are lower than expected which could have a negative impact on the final number for 2003 close and for the 2005-2006 period.
