State Representative David Dill introduces Freedom to Hunt and Fish Act of 2012

(ST. PAUL, MN.) – State Representative David Dill (DFL-Crane Lake) has drafted a bill to enact a Freedom to Hunt and Fish Act of 2012 to ensure that game and fish licenses can be issued should all or part of the biennial budget for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources fail to get enacted into law.

The Freedom to Hunt and Fish Act of 2012 is a direct response to last year’s special session and state government shutdown, which led to Minnesota residents and non-resident fishermen being unable to purchase licenses to fish. In addition, the closure of the state licensing system unfairly punished Minnesota businesses that depend on the state database to process these licenses.

"Because of the government shutdown, suppliers of fishing licenses were unable to issue fishing licenses and it hurt their business. I want to make sure this doesn’t happen again, regardless of whether the state cannot agree on a budget," stated Rep. David Dill.
