St. Paul-A financing package that will boost water quality and save taxpayers $360,881 was approved for the City of Two Harbors. The $2,262,255 the city will receive is from a Drinking Water Revolving Fund. The money comes from the Minnesota Public Facilities Authority (MPFA). State Representative David Dill (DFL- Crane Lake) and State Senator Tom Bakk (DFL- Cook) have been working with Two Harbors for many years on drinking water and wastewater management issues. They congratulate the city on their forward thinking and progress on these important community issues.
“Good clean drinking water is crucial for the survival of any community," said Dill. “With these funds Two Harbors will ensure that their high water quality will be maintained for future generations.”
To get the money the City of Two Harbors had to file an application with (MPFA). The organization was impressed with the city’s clear plan and commitment drinking water. The package comes as a 20-year loan with an interest rate of 1.665 percent. That interest rate is lower than what the city would pay through bonding so taxpayers save those hundreds of thousands of dollars.
“It’s always a good thing when you can start a project that will end up saving you money,” said Dill.
