ST. PAUL – Rep. David Dill was recognized by the Coalition of Greater Minnesota Cities Thursday (July 28) at the coalition’s three-day summer conference in Moorhead, Minn.
Dill, a Democrat from Crane Lake, received the coalition’s Legislator of Distinction Award for his work in environmental policy.
Tim Flaherty, the coalition’s executive director, said Dill worked hard to pass amendments to the proposed Clean Water Legacy Act that would prevent special interest groups from creating unfunded mandates for cities.
“Rep. Dill recognizes that water quality regulations will result in hundreds of millions of dollars worth of mandates for cities, and that private business and special interest environmental groups should not develop these mandates," Flaherty said. “It is the state’s responsibility to create these regulations and this responsibility should not be turned over to special interest groups.”
The CGMC is a nonprofit advocacy organization that represents 71 cities outside of the Twin Cities metropolitan area. The coalition educates legislators about issues important to greater Minnesota.
