If you care about the future of our country, state and communities, mark Tuesday, March 7 at 7 p.m. on your calendar as a day to get involved. That is the day that Minnesotans across the state will have the opportunity to change the shape of government by attending their local precinct caucuses.
A precinct caucus is a neighborhood meeting and the first step in the political process. They give all of us the opportunity to exercise our full rights of citizenship, beyond just voting and paying taxes. Citizens are able to come together to discuss issues and candidates and help make decisions about the party's platform.
Precinct caucuses are typically held by all four parties-Democrat, Republican, Green and Independence. If you are unsure where your meeting will be held, contact the County Auditor's office:
Cook County- 218-387-3640
Lake County – 218-834-8315
St. Louis County – 218-726-2385
We encourage those who have never been to precinct caucus to attend this year. The decisions made here are the starting point for the eight-month cycle that determines who will represent the people at all levels of government. Local caucuses are followed by endorsing conventions at the county and senate district level, congressional conventions, state conventions, filings for office, primary elections on Tuesday September 12, and finally Election Day on Tuesday, November 7. Delegates to later conventions begin by being elected out of their precinct caucuses.
Caucus night is a great opportunity to meet your neighbors, get involved in your community, discuss issues vital to the state and the nation, and, most importantly, support the democratic process. Real political direction begins at the grass roots level, and there is no better way to get involved than to attend your precinct caucus on March 7th.
Sincerely,
