ST. PAUL – Minnesota Speaker of the House Kurt Zellers has appointed State Representative Tony Cornish (R-Good Thunder) as Chairman of the House Public Safety and Crime Prevention Policy and Finance Committee.
Cornish, who serves as police chief in Lake Crystal, was pleased with the selection.
“As someone who has worked in law enforcement my entire adult life, I am excited to chair this committee and look forward to creating policies that will protect Minnesotans and adequately fund public safety organizations across this great state,” Cornish said.
Cornish said the Minnesota House Public Safety and Crime Prevention Policy and Finance Committee oversees and funds all areas within public safety, including the court system, the State Patrol, the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, and programs like Sentenced to Serve. It will distribute approximately $1.25 billion to these areas over the next two years. More than 6,700 Minnesota workers are employed in programs that are funded through Cornish’s new committee.
Cornish was recently elected to his 5th term in the Minnesota House of Representatives.
