Alexandria, MN - Representative Tony Cornish (R-Good Thunder) was named 2009 Legislator of the Year by the Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association (MPPOA), the state’s largest police association.
When receiving the award, the four-term Republican was cited for his distinguished record as a strong defender and advocate of issues that impacted its members. The association also noted Cornish’s distinguished 22 year career in law enforcement as a Conservation Officer and his current position as the Chief of Police in Lake Crystal.
“Representative Cornish was a tremendously effective member of the law enforcement community so it should be no surprise that he positioned himself as a lead policy maker on law enforcement issues,” according to MPPOA Executive Director Dennis Flaherty. “He is concerned about the safety of our citizens and equally concerned about the welfare of our profession. Tony understands what is important to police officers and works very hard to represent them and their interests. This session was a particularly challenging session for law enforcement and Tony showed tremendous leadership on our issues.”
The award was given at a luncheon today at the 87th Annual Convention in Alexandria, Minnesota. The Association is the largest group representing police officers in Minnesota. It was established in 1922 and is the voice for rank and file police officers.
