NEWS RELEASE

CORNISH ASSIGNED TO COMMITTEES

ST. PAUL January 4, 2005 marked the beginning of the 84th session of the Minnesota House of Representatives. The 2005 2006 session is Representative Tony Cornish’s (R Good Thunder) second term in the House of Representatives.

“I can’t wait for this session to begin,” Cornish said. “We have much to accomplish this session, including some unfinished business from last year. It’s time to get to work.”

Cornish, a retired conservation officer, looks forward to bringing environmental issues back to the forefront as a member of the Environment and Natural Resources, and Agriculture and Natural Resources Finance committees. He served on similar committees last session.

Cornish was also appointed to the Local Government and the Public Safety Policy and Finance committees. Cornish said that the new committee, Public Safety Policy and Finance, deals with courts, public defenders, prisons, law enforcement and sentencing guidelines.

“It will mean a lot to the rural area where we are having to deal with housing prisoners from the State, and also trying to deal with the problems of drugs and other crimes,” Cornish said. “I'll be able to put my 27 years of law enforcement experience to use well here."

Cornish represents District 24B, which contains all or parts of Blue Earth, Faribault, and Waseca counties.
