MNDOT Awards Funding for Highway 101 Bridge Replacement
St. Paul – Representative Mike Beard (R-Shakopee) and Senator Claire Robling (R-Jordan) are pleased to announce that the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) Statewide Flood Mitigation Program has selected the Highway 101 bridge project as a recipient of $20 million to replace the existing bridge and raise the flood plain to prevent future flooding.
“This award provides a significant amount of the funding for the Highway 101 river crossing project and will be a great benefit to all of Shakopee and Scott and Carver Counties,” Representative Beard said. “Senator Robling and I will continue to work to secure complete funding so the project can start in the near future.”
Several counties competed for flood mitigation funding, and eight projects were awarded a total of $30 million to be constructed in the next five years. The Highway 101 Bridge is the largest, most significant of the projects.
“We know that additional funding is still needed to complete the four-lane bridge that is needed by this region,” Senator Robling said. “At this time, we are working to secure additional dollars from the state bonding bill and transportation bill which are both moving through the Legislature.”
The two local legislators have also been working with Scott County and the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community to support a grant application they have submitted to the United States Department of Transportation for a Tiger Grant to help fund the project.
“Every route we can think of is being pursued so we can complete this important project,” Robling added. “We are hoping to get this done before the next flood.”
