Celebrate Veterans' Day

Veterans’ Day is this Sunday and our communities have special events planned, a few of which I listed below. I’ve also added some info on various veterans services that our state makes available. We have more than 2,000 new veterans this year who recently returned from serving our country in the Global War on Terrorism, let’s show them and all veterans how much we thank them for their selfless service.

PRIOR LAKE – Todd Kubinski will be on hand to help connect vets and families with questions about the GI Bill, Veterans Administration loans, health care and more. Time: noon to 3 p.m. at the Prior Lake VFW.

Here is a link to the Prior Lake newspaper’s website with several different events on Sunday and Monday: http://www.plamerican.com/node/3866

If you are a veteran, Minnesota has a number of programs and services catered toward your unique needs. You’ll find some of them below. You can find more at http://www.mdva.state.mn.us/. Also, if you are able to make it, the Minnesota State Program will be held on November 10th at the Inver Grove Heights Veterans Memorial Community Center. The event starts at 8:00 am to 9:45 am with a FREE Buffet Breakfast. The official program starts at 10:00 am and should conclude at 11:00 am.

LinkVet
LinkVet, the Veterans Linkage Line for Minnesota veterans, makes it easier for veterans and their families to find services and ensure immediate crisis intervention. During business hours, trained staff from the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs will provide information on veterans’ benefits, healthcare, education, and reintegration. The line will roll to Crisis Connection counselors for 24-hour, seven days a week coverage (including holidays) for immediate crisis intervention and psychological counseling. For more information on LinkVet: http://www.mdva.state.mn.us/LinkVet.htm

Minnesota GI Bill
The Minnesota GI Bill program provides postsecondary educational assistance to eligible Minnesota veterans, and to the children and spouses of deceased or severely disabled Minnesota Veterans. For eligibility requirements and financial assistance information: http://www.minnesotaveteran.org/education/MNGIBill.htm

E-mail Newsletters
The Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs now offers e-mail lists to keep you informed of veteran issues in Minnesota. To sign up for the newsletters: http://www.mdva.state.mn.us/newsletter.htm

Again, please take a moment to thank any veterans you know for their service in keeping our country safe.
