To the editor,
I would like to thank the residents of Shakopee and Prior Lake for giving me the honor of representing our communities in the Minnesota House. We have a lot to do in 2007, including the wise use of the $2 billion budget surplus. Minnesota’s economy has an up-and-down history that results in large deficits followed a few years later by a large surplus. As you know, one of the ideas I campaigned on is breaking the deficit cycles that seem to afflict state government every ten years. I believe we owe it to future generations to use this opportunity as a chance to invest in our economy, letting it grow and bring us closer to stabilizing our economic cycles, without general tax increases.
We can do this by jump-starting major transportation projects to relieve congestion and lower the cost of doing business. This can happen at the same time we work to improve schools, control rising health care costs and keep streets safe. This truly is a time of great opportunity for Minnesota.
I will also continue my work on energy policy. With high prices for oil and natural gas, the impact of energy production and consumption has never been more evident. We need to keep updating our ability to produce and deliver energy or risk watching prices rise beyond what the economy can handle.

Sincerely,
