Friends,
I am continuing to follow the progress of bonding requests for the women’s prison in Shakopee. The Senate’s bonding bill includes $5.375 million for a 92-bed addition to the prison, and it does not include any money for the fence. The House bonding committee is expected to release its bill on Tuesday and I have yet to receive an indication one way or the other on either project. As soon as the bill is released I will convey an update.
The Senate bonding bill also included $600,000 for the Scott County joint police/fire training facility. The county requested $4.2 million. As with the Shakopee prison, I will keep you update on the House status of the facility’s bonding request as soon as it becomes available.
I have an update on a bill I have been working on to lift the card table limit at Canterbury Park. The Regulated Industries Committee has approved the bill, which also would allow the club to operate “banked” wagering, where the players wager against the game’s sponsor rather than each other.
Finally, the stadium issue gained prominence again after the University of Minnesota announced a land swapping deal with the state. The proposal sailed through the Senate and has received enough committee approval in the House to come for a floor vote soon.
