State Rep. Joe Atkins and the Inver Grove Heights City Council will again be collecting non-perishable food items and school supplies during the Inver Grove Heights Days parade. The parade is on Saturday, September 10 at 10 a.m. The parade route is along Cahill Avenue, from 65th to 80th Street. All items collected are donated to Neighbors, Inc., the area's food shelf.
This is the 8th year for the food drive, which has collected over 10,000 pounds of food for the food shelf, according to Atkins. "The response to the food drive has been overwhelming," said Atkins.
We never dreamt it would go this well."
The donations come at a particularly good time for the food shelf. Neighbors, Inc. reports that food shelf supplies wane in late summer.
