(ST. PAUL) — Tonight Governor Dayton delivered his State of the State address, outlining his proposals to put Minnesotans back to work, reform government, and improve Minnesota’s workforce.
In the audience as a guest of Governor Dayton was Antoinette McCarthy from Inver Grove Heights. Ms. McCarthy completed the FastTRAC program to receive her Certified Nursing Assistant certificate at Inver Hills Community College. She is now working towards an associate’s degree in Nursing. Antoinette is the mother of three children.
Rep. Joe Atkins, who represents Inver Grove Heights, released the following statement.
“Minnesota has been well-known for our highly-skilled workforce, but right now Minnesota employers have 80,000 unfilled jobs because they can’t find skilled workers. I agree with Governor Dayton that improving our workforce is the key to maintaining a competitive advantage and economic growth.
“Programs like FastTRAC and Opportunity Grants can help close that skills gap. We need to ensure that every student has access to a great education that prepares them for college and a career. Not only will Minnesota’s economy be better off for it, but so will thousands of Minnesotans. Minnesotans just like Antoinette."
