To the Editor:
Each year since 1997 we have pushed grocery carts in the IGH Days Parade, collecting over 12 tons of donations for our local food shelf at Neighbors, Inc.
This year, with the economy being the way it is, we were concerned donations from parade-goers would be down, probably way down. Boy, were we wrong. Folks at the IGH Days Parade this past Saturday donated a record amount of food, household and school supplies, weighing well over a ton, just when our food shelf needed it most. Thank you to everyone who donated.
Thanks especially to our volunteers - Simley National Honor Society students, BEST Scholarship Foundation members, Mayor George Tourville and City Council members Dennis Madden and Chip Grannis, Cub Foods, and my own kids and their friends. Joe Gullerud, the owner of Bester Bros. Moving, deserves a special nod. When his driver came down sick just prior to the parade, Joe canceled his own family's plans and drove the truck that carries the donations.
