ST. PAUL - In an effort to better involve the public in the legislative process, Representative Joe Atkins, Chair of the House Commerce and Labor Committee, is taking public online comment about, HF 305, the "Freedom to Breathe Act." Minnesotans can now log on to www.house.mn/commerce and follow the survey link to give their opinions. Committee members will see the survey results when the bill is heard.
"A statewide smoking ban is an issue that nearly every Minnesotan has an opinion on," said Atkins. "We now have an easy option for committee members to hear them."
Rep. Atkins' push to get online feedback is third in a series of opportunities House Democrats have put forth this session. Rep. Paul Marquart's property tax project and Rep. Sheldon Johnson's interactive hearing on Atkins' call center bill were both a success.
"Legislators are here to serve the people of Minnesota," added Atkins. "Anything we can do to get our constituents more involved in the process helps us better represent them."
