GUNTHER APPLAUDS GOVERNOR PAWLENTY’S STATE OF THE STATE MESSAGE
ST. PAUL – State Representative Bob Gunther (R-Fairmont) said he was pleased with Governor Pawlenty’s State of the State Address, which focused on taking advantage of opportunities during the 2008 session.
“I thought Pawlenty outlined several goals that would benefit farmers and rural Minnesota,” Gunther said.
Specifically, Pawlenty wants to support small business owners through the Strategic Entrepreneurial Economic Development (SEED) program; increase the biodiesel standard from two percent to twenty percent by 2015; keep farmers’ input costs such as energy, fuel, regulations, and taxes as low as possible; and approve health care reform that is market-driven.
But most of all, Pawlenty stressed the need to protect the taxpayer, as Minnesota currently faces a $373 million budget deficit.
“As Governor Pawlenty said, the last thing Minnesota families and businesses need is government rummaging around in their pockets for more,” Gunther said. “Its time to tighten our belts, not look for ways to spend money we don’t have.”
