It was recently announced that Representative Gene Pelowski (DFL-Winona) has been appointed to the Council on State Governments (CSG) Midwestern Education-to-Work Policy Initiative group by Speaker of the House Steve Sviggum.
This first-of-its kind P-12 education-to-workforce collaboration will join legislators, governors, educators and business leaders from across the Midwest. The focus of the group will be to explore ways to link education systems more closely with workforce development, better equipping the states with the tools needed to build a skilled workforce.
Pelowski, who is serving his 10th term in the House of Representatives, is the lead Democrat on the Higher Education Finance Committee and also serves on the Education Policy Reform Committee. He has worked actively throughout his career as both an educator and a legislator in support of a high standard of public education in Minnesota.
"As educators, it is our responsibility to prepare our students for a fulfilling and productive future, both as citizens and in the workplace," said Pelowski.
"It is my hope that what we learn in this group will help us do that as we move into the future."
There are 13 midwestern states involved in this project. The first meeting of the Minnesota group will take place on October 27-29.
