REP. GENE PELOWSKI APPOINTED TO KEY HOUSE COMMITTEES

With the start of the 2007 Legislative Session just around the corner, State Representative Gene Pelowski received his House Committee assignments this week from Speaker-designate Margaret Anderson Kelliher.
Pelowski, an 11th term legislator from Winona, was appointed to seven House committees: Capital Investment Finance, Education Finance and Economic Competitiveness Finance, Finance, Rules and Legislative Administration, State Government Finance and the prestigious Ways and Means Committee, which sets the overall state budget.
In addition, Pelowski was named Chair of the Government Operations Reform, Technology and Elections Committee.
"These committees represent some of the most fundamental work of our state government, including setting the overall state budget and determining the bonding projects that will be funded statewide," said Pelowski.
"I'm very pleased with the confidence Speaker-designate Anderson Kelliher and the leadership staff has shown in me with these committee appointments, " said Rep. Pelowski. "With the new DFL majority in the House, we have an incredible opportunity to pass very meaningful legislation for our state. I look forward to working with all members of the House to move our state forward."
Pelowski views his position as chair of the Government Operations Reform, Technology and Elections Committee as an opportunity to recommend meaningful changes to the state government that will benefit all Minnesotans.
Of particular interest to Rep. Pelowski is reducing or eliminating some of the state mandates, as well as downsizing agencies to make them more economical and accountable. He would also like to see the state expand its use of technology, allowing citizens to access resources 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Pelowski brings to this committee his experience as Chair of the Select Committee on Technology, where he helped develop the laptop computer system for House members, the House web site and the contract for cable TV cameras on the floor and in House committees.
Pelowski was also just named Speaker Pro-Tempore. In that capacity, he will preside over the House floor activity when Speaker Kelliher is not available.
The 2007 Legislative session convenes on January 3rd, 2007.
