Area Student Participates In High School Page Program

Grace Flinsch, a junior at Winona High School, recently received a first-hand look at the workings of state government through the Minnesota House of Representatives High School Page Program. Flinsch served as page for two weeks last month, working closely with members of the House with during committee hearings and floor sessions.
As part of the program, she also participated in seminars and roundtable discussions on important current issues, including the state budget process, taxes, the environment and education.
“This program is tailor-made for students like Grace who have an interest in politics and government," said State Rep. Gene Pelowski (DFL-Winona). Pelowski, who teaches government at Winona High School when he's not at the Capitol, has had Flinsch in class. "It gives them a close-up view of our system of government and how public policy gets made. I also hope it shows students like Grace the value of public service."
For more information about the program, contact Rep. Pelowski's office at (651) 296-8637 or toll-free at (888) 681-8226.
