LEGISLATIVE UPDATE

News From Representative Nornes

Happy new year! We are beginning to prepare for the upcoming session beginning on January 24th. I am eagerly looking forward to the February budget forecast as well, I hope that we have an outcome similar to that of the November forecast that projected a budget surplus of $876 million.

This year the shorter session will be targeted at government reform. 2012 is a bonding year and expect a small bonding bill will be part of the agenda.
I also had the privilege of receiving the Distinguished Legislator Award Thursday by the Minnesota State College Student Association. I was recognized for my efforts to minimize tuition increases and for working toward policies that make going to college and managing costs easier for Minnesota students. I’d like to thank them for this special recognition.
