BUDGET UPDATE

News From Representative Nornes

Governor Dayton has said that he wants to increase taxes on Minnesotans and now he has agreed to our budget of $34 billion with no tax increases. On Thursday Governor Dayton sent a letter to Republican legislative leaders saying that he would accept our proposal offered on June 30th, with a few conditions.

The governor and legislative leaders are still working out many of the fine details that come along with working out a budget deal. It is my hope that there will be a special session called early next week. This shutdown has gone on far too long and it was time to end the shutdown. 23,000 workers were put out of work and unnecessarily took the brunt end of a shutdown where the Governor and legislators couldn’t agree.

It is important to note that both sides are not thrilled with the end result of the agreement, but that is what compromise is about. Now that we have an agreement, with details being worked out, I am thankful that parks will begin to re-open and rest-stops will be available once again and Minnesotans will be back to work.

Sincerely,

Bud
