GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN UPDATE

News From Representative Nornes

I am extremely disappointed that an agreement to keep Minnesota open was not reached. It’s unfortunate that our parks and rest-stops will now close, especially over the 4th of July weekend. The Republicans in both the House and Senate waited in the chambers late into the night for a signal from Governor Dayton to allow Minnesota workers to get back to work and parks remain open.

A simple bill would have given the Governor and legislative leaders more time to reach an agreement. It appeared that negotiations were close at one point today, but fell through in the 11th hour.

It is my hope that Governor Dayton will call us back to the legislature very soon to vote on a final budget bill. Please stay tuned as I will provide more information in the coming days as to further negotiations here at the Capitol in St. Paul.

I hope everyone has a safe and happy 4th of July this weekend.

Sincerely,

Bud
