SESSION UPDATE

News From Representative Nornes

As May 23rd is quickly approaching we continue to meet in our policy committees and conference committees are meeting to make the final changes to the finance bills before they head to the Governor’s desk.

The Local Option Sales Tax continues to make progress through the legislature...since it's included in the omnibus tax bill it will be late in the session before it's officially passed. More information on the Taxes Omnibus bill can be found here: http://www.house.leg.state.mn.us/hrd/bs/87/HF0042.html

100 PioneerCare residents moved into their new facility Monday lead by the Fergus Falls High School Band. Congratulations once again on the opening of the new PioneerCare facility. This is a great addition to our community and will be a great resource to many residents.

I had the privilege of delivering the commencement address for Brown College last Saturday and was honored with the distinguished Alumni Award. I completed my broadcast training in 1962 at Brown College and then later moved to Fergus Falls where I owned a radio station. It was an honor to speak to the graduating students.

A bill designating Fergus Falls as a border city development zone has been introduced. This bill is intended to allow cities near the North Dakota border to have the same tax advantage as neighboring states when it comes to attracting business.

In the middle of a busy legislative day, the House and Senate paused to observe the National Day of Prayer. Hundreds of citizens joined members of both parties and Gov. Dayton on the Capitol grounds.

As always if you have any questions or need help with anything, please don’t hesitate to contact my office.
Visitors continue to come to the capitol to take tours and visit with local legislators. I would encourage folks to come to the Capitol for a visit. Please contact my assistant Chelsea Thompson to schedule a tour and visit by emailing her at chelsea.thompson@house.mn or you can reach her by phone at 651-296-4946 or 800-336-8017.

Sincerely,

Bud
