Rep. Bud Nornes Gives Brown College Commencement Speech and Receives Distinguished Alumni Award.


St. Paul – Saturday, Representative Bud Nornes, Chairman of the Minnesota House Higher Education Committee and 1962 Radio Broadcasting graduate of Brown College, gave the key note address at Brown College’s April 30th spring commencement.

Rep. Nornes grew up in Beltrami, MN and graduated from Fertile High School in 1961. Rep. Nornes began studying at Brown College shortly after graduation in June 1961 and graduated with a Radio Broadcasting degree in 1962. Rep. Nornes took his first radio broadcast position at a Thief River Falls station shortly after graduation.

Rep. Nornes spoke of risk taking and making sure that students make the most of each opportunity that comes their way. Saying, risks are what get us to where we are or want to be. No one ever got anywhere in life without taking a risk.

“It was an honor to be participating in the ceremony,” said Rep. Nornes. “I was surprised to be presented with the distinguished alumni award. I would like to thank Brown College for this honor, it was very humbling.”
