LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Grants awarded to local veterans

To the editor:

I’d like to congratulate veterans in Otter Tail, Grant and Wilkin counties for having recently been awarded grants from the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs “Grants to Counties” program.

Otter Tail was awarded almost $27,000 for outreach and integration purposes. Grant ($7,000) and Wilkin ($4,000) also received awards to aid their outreach.

The winners were those that best reflected the intent and goals of the Grants and Counties program, which was created by the Legislature in 2006. Since the program’s inception, available annual funds have risen to $950,000 statewide. There were 84 grant proposals totaling more than $1.5 million this year and 72 awards were issued.

For all the sacrifices our veterans make to ensure our freedom, it’s nice to see veterans receive our continued support.
