NEWS RELEASE

NORNES TO TRAVEL TO MOORHEAD FOR LEGISLATIVE COMMISSION HEARING ON ENDING POVERTY

SAINT PAUL – State Representative Bud Nornes today discussed the upcoming hearing of the Minnesota Legislative Commission to End Poverty by 2020. Rep. Nornes, who is a member of the commission, will be attending the hearing on Thursday, October 25 in Moorhead.

“Across Minnesota many people live below the poverty line,” said State Representative Bud Nornes, “this commission is designed to hear from those people, and experts in the area, to see what the legislature can do to assist these people.”

The events on October 25th will include a tour of the Dorothy Day House of Hospitality, Village Green, and Greenwood Trailer Court. The commission will also hold a listening session from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead that day. Some of the topics that are expected to be covered will be transportation, fuel costs, health-care issues and housing.

“This is a great chance for people to come out and meet some of the legislators,” Rep. Nornes said during his discussion. “Anyone who is interested in this issue, or wants to become more informed about it should plan to attend this listening session.” Rep. Nornes also commented that people could contact his office with any concerns by calling 800-336-8017. He is also available by email at rep.bud.nornes@house.mn.
