HOUSE AGREES TO RAISE BED CAPACITY AT FERGUS HOSPITAL

ST. PAUL – The Fergus Falls Hospital took one step closer to increasing its capacity thanks to the Minnesota House of Representatives.

The House last week unanimously voted for legislation to provide an exception to the hospital construction and modification moratorium by allowing an increase in bed capacity for the Fergus Falls hospital.

Under the proposal the bed capacity at the Fergus Falls Hospital would increase from 108 to 110 by increasing the rehabilitation bed capacity from 14 to 16, and by closing a separately licensed 13-bed skilled nursing facility. The bill (HF2854) is authored by State Rep. Bud Nornes (R-Fergus Falls).

“I’m grateful that the House supported this legislation,” he said. “The people of this region need this expansion because hospital care is so vital. As the primary facility in the area, Fergus Falls should have the necessary resources available, and with this expansion the region’s health care needs will benefit.”

The Minnesota Senate has yet to vote on the legislation, but Sen. Cal Larson is moving the bill through committees.
