After the devastating tornado in May, 2011, I worked with the City of Minneapolis on several ideas for relief from the tornado damage. As we assembled an aid package, I worked with the House Republican tax committee chair, and the City of Minneapolis worked with the Governor's office. Our efforts were successful and we were able to get a provision into law allowing Minneapolis to take money from lucrative tax increment financing districts and use the funds for housing issues caused by the tornado. Minneapolis is now adopting a plan to use that money to remove badly damaged houses so they are no longer a detriment to the neighborhood.
