HONORED BY NORTHSIDE RECOVERY TEAM
On the anniversary of the tornado, I was honored to be the only elected official from our district asked to speak at the celebration of our recovery from the tornado. The celebration was sponsored by the Northside Recovery Team which helped coordinate recovery efforts after the tornado.
I still get thanks from people for getting out accurate info for the several weeks after the tornado. Even some reporters said they got the most accurate info from my emails; better than the official city info site.
My speech focused on the fact that despite the devastation caused by the tornado, there was a positive result because it brought all of us on the Northside together as a family. When I walked and drove around after the tornado, many people told me they were helping neighbors they had never talked to; often people of a different race. I also said we need to continue to come together to solve three other important issues: jobs and economic development, helping our youth become successful members of society, and recovery from the devastation caused by foreclosures.
