This week, Governor Dayton vetoed another very bad bill. The measure would have taken away the rights of asbestosis victims to sue. Many workers who were employed by a Minnesota company became seriously ill from asbestos they breathed at work. When the company was sold to another investor, the company was still liable. The Republicans passed a bill removing the company's liability for the damages to those workers.
The bill was so bad that the Republican leadership had to hold the voting board open for a long time while they "convinced" their members to vote ‘yes’ (apparently many of their members originally were against the bill, relieving the company of responsibility). Fortunately, Governor Dayton vetoed the bill thus preserving the injured employees right to sue for their damages.
