Today, I joined nearly 500 legislators from around the country to file an Amicus (Friend of the Court) Brief with the U. S. Supreme Court asking the Court to uphold the constitutionality of the Obama Affordable Care Act. I believe the challenges to it are purely based on ideological political beliefs, not on constitutional analysis. I've done quite a bit of study on constitutional issues and I think the Act is clearly constitutional, whether or not people like it. I don't like parts of it because I believe they gave in too much to insurance and drug companies. But it's constitutional.
I'm worried about the decision because the present majority on the Supreme Court is so ideologically right wing that they are reversing hundreds of years of court decisions in some cases, such as the Citizens United case. What is really funny is that far-right conservatives always complain about "activist" judges, yet the extreme right-wing majority presently on the court is probably the most "activist" group of judges in history.
