Last week, the Minnesota Council for Battered Women issued their report for last year. 34 people, including 4 children, were murdered by domestic violence in 2011. That is an increase from 29 in 2010, and from 25 in 2009. Of that number, 23 were women, and of those, 11 were already separated from their spouse or attempting to leave.
Yet, the Republicans cut the funding for battered women's program last year. I led the fight against the cuts, but as with most everything, the Republicans pushed through their cuts rather than raising the tax on the top 1% of income earners (we just wanted to raise their rate to roughly what the rest of us pay).
I will try to get funding restored.
