Almost everyone agrees our medical payment system is careening out of control. That’s why Joe and many other House Democrats pushed for wholesale reform to achieve guaranteed comprehensive affordable health care access.
While Joe thinks a single-payer system may be best in the long-run, we can’t just wait while experts research how to keep our quality.
The new House proposal may be the most innovative of any state in the country. If it becomes law, the House proposal would:
§ Provide coverage to 100,000 uninsured Minnesotans;
§ Establish affordability standards for medical premiums.
- Six percent of income below 300 percent of poverty guidelines
($31,000 for individuals, $63,000 for a family of four).
- Eight percent of income below 400 percent of the poverty guidelines;
§ Study guaranteed coverage for pre-existing conditions;
§ Provide coverage for 96 percent of Minnesotans by 2011;
§ Eliminate the four-month waiting period for uninsured Minnesotans to get on MNCare;
§ Reward providers for high quality, cost-effective care to keep their patients healthy.
