MULLERY APPLAUDS GOVERNOR'S ENDORSEMENT OF FORECLOSURE ACTION PLAN

ST. PAUL – At a press conference Monday, Governor Tim Pawlenty announced his support of several foreclosure prevention efforts included in Rep. Joe Mullery's Foreclosure Action Plan – a broad package of foreclosure prevention initiatives with bi-partisan support in the Legislature.

"I’m glad Governor Pawlenty is taking the foreclosure crisis seriously," said Rep. Mullery. "Getting Minnesotans through these difficult times is going to take serious, and legitimate action on behalf of a number of actors – including state government."

With the housing market in serious trouble, and mortgage foreclosures on the rise, Mullery has been leading legislative efforts to help Minnesotans who are facing the possibility of losing their homes. As chair of the House Public Safety and Civil Justice Committee, Rep. Mullery organized a Foreclosures Working Group that met throughout the interim to create legislative solutions to the ongoing housing crisis.

"I look forward to continuing this important work with the partnership of Governor Pawlenty," said Mullery. "By working together, we can protect neighborhoods, keep Minnesotans in their homes, save our economy from any further damage."

Minnesota is currently tied for fourth in the nation when it comes to the percentage of sub-prime mortgages in foreclosure. In fact, in the last year, Minnesota has seen a troubling 152 percent increase in mortgage foreclosures. With no end in sight, Rep. Mullery and other legislators are committed to helping residents keep their homes through these troubling times.
