The legislature passed two important voting provisions this year, but the governor vetoed them. The first would have allowed people to vote by absentee ballot without providing an excuse.
The second would have automatically registered voters and updated information every time a voter applied for or changed their driver’s license. (Voters could have opted out of this program.) It is estimated this would have saved the state and local governments over $1 million per year.
