Today, State Representative Paul Marquart (DFL-Dilworth) voted in support of a statewide bonding package that invests $496 million into Minnesota’s aging infrastructure and creates thousands of construction and long-term jobs. Rep. Marquart advocated all session for a robust and strategic bonding bill to create jobs and spur the state’s economy.
“There is $30 million in much needed funding for flood hazard mitigation in the bonding bill. This funding will go a long way in protecting families and properties along the Red River Valley," stated Rep. Marquart. “I appreciate that this bill continues the state’s commitment to stopping floods before they happen.”
Other bonding for roads and bridges, wastewater systems, buildings on college campuses, veterans’ homes and Greater Minnesota business development grants will put thousands of unemployed construction workers – a sector that was hit hardest during the economic downturn - back on the job. Additionally, it stretches taypayer dollars farther by taking advantage of current record low interest rates and construction bids.
“I very much wanted a robust and strategic bonding package this session to create thousands of construction and permanent jobs vital to the state’s economic recovery. The bill passed today will do that and it has a great direct benefit to our region,” concluded Rep. Marquart.
