GOVERNOR PAWLENTY TO SPEAK AT RURAL YOUTH SUMMIT

Governor Tim Pawlenty will be the keynote speaker on March 18 at the Rural Youth Summit involving over 100 students from 14 area schools who will be meeting to look at ways to keep rural Minnesota strong and vibrant for youth in the future.

The summit, being organized by the District 9B Youth Council and held at Minnesota State University Moorhead Comstock Memorial Union, will bring area students together to create discussion and receive input on how to make rural Minnesota attractive to youth in the future.

“We want the youth of rural Minnesota to feel as if they do matter. We want them to know that they do," said District 9B Youth Council chairperson and Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton senior Jessica Thompson.

Several speakers will address students in the areas of jobs, higher education, youth ownership and community assets to generate youth ideas on how to keep youth in rural Minnesota and build strong communities.

“This youth summit will reinforce the importance of Greater Minnesota and give tomorrow’s leaders the opportunity to voice their opinions,” said District 9B Youth Council vice-chairperson and Lake Park-Audubon senior Emma Olson.

The District 9B Youth Council will use ideas from the summit to develop an action plan of goals and recommendations for state and local leaders, policy makers, and stakeholders, said Rep. Paul Marquart (DFL-Dilworth), who organized the District 9B Youth Council.

The council consists of 21 students from eight area schools and was established to provide youth with ownership and input into the legislative process, recognition for youth accomplishments, and to improve the quality of life in area rural communities.

Rep. Paul Marquart can be reached at 800-551-5520 or 218-233-9200.
