To the Editor:
The Pawlenty administration has been begging the Legislature for more money over the last few weeks because MnDOT is broke. Pawlenty and Molnau say they need $195 million to keep the lights on.
But I have a question for Governor Pawlenty and Carol Molnau – where did the surplus go?
A few months ago the Governor never let us forget that number, the supposed $2.2 billion the state had stored away. But where is that money now, Mr. Governor? Why is the Department of Transportation in the hole if we have so much money on-hand to rely on?
Maybe Pawlenty finally came to terms with reality. Maybe we haven't heard that tired old number because he's afraid to admit to Minnesotans that taking inflation out of the budget forecast was just his slippery scheme to make things look better than they actually are.
One more question Mr. Governor – have any regrets?
