(ST. PAUL) — Yesterday, at an event held at the State Capitol, State Representative Phyllis Kahn (DFL – Minneapolis) received an award for her efforts in addressing racial equality during the 2011 Legislative Session. The “Champion for Racial Justice" award was given to legislators who had received an “A” grade on their Racial Equity Report Card from the Organizing Apprenticeship Project.
Rep. Kahn was named a champion for sponsoring, co-sponsoring and supporting legislation in 2011 that would have had a positive impact on racial disparities in education, health, or the economic status of communities of color.
“This award means so much to me as a state legislator,” said Rep. Kahn. “Unfortunately, we still signs of racial inequality in our society and it’s clear our work is not done. I will continue my dedicated efforts to combat racial disparities on all fronts, building a more equal and just Minnesota.”
Rep. Kahn has received an “A” on her Racial Equity Report Card on multiple occasions since The Organizing Apprenticeship Project began grading legislators in 2006.
