STATEMENT ON OPENING PRAYER BY BRADLEE DEAN

ST. PAUL —This morning Bradlee Dean, of You Can Run But You Can’t Hide Ministry, delivered the opening prayer in the House Chamber. Dean has alleged that gays were responsible for the Holocaust, that gay men molest 117 people “before they’re found out," and suggested that extremists who call for the execution of gays are morally justified.

State Representative Phyllis Kahn (DFL – Minneapolis) released the following statement:

“The Minnesota House of Representatives is supposed to be a place of inclusion and hope. Bradlee Dean has a long track record of hateful speech, and his intolerance has no place in the ‘people's house.' His presence sheds light on the true motivations of the anti gay marriage constitutional amendment groups. This isn't about voter choice; it's about systematic discrimination against a group of people.

“The Minnesota I know and love is a place of fairness, tolerance, hope, and caring. These are the ideals our House of Representatives should promote. The likes of Bradlee Dean have no place in our Capitol or on our House floor. I am absolutely appalled that he was invited to deliver the opening prayer.”
