THE NEW MAPS ARE OUT
The big news this week was redistricting. A five-judge panel on Tuesday unveiled its plan for redistricting of all Minnesota’s state Senate and House districts as well as the Congressional districts.
Redistricting occurs every 10 years after the census to reflect changes to Minnesota’s growing population. In drawing the new district lines, the panel sought to have each House member represent approximately 39,582 residents and each Senate member approximately 79,163.
In the House of Representatives, a total number of 31 members have been paired in redrawn districts. In the Senate, a total of 16 members were paired in the new districts. The House District that I currently represent, District 67B, was expanded north for several blocks around Minnehaha Ave. and Ruth Street, as well as adding the "railroad island" neighborhood (west of Payne and Minnehaha Ave.)
