JOHNSON SUPPORTS COURT REFORMS

(ST. PAUL) – The Minnesota House of Representatives tonight passed the Judiciary Policy bill. State Representative Sheldon Johnson (67B-St. Paul), the DFL-Lead on the committee, commented on the bill’s passage.

“In a session where partisan battles have dominated the budgeting process, the judiciary bill is a bright spot of bipartisanship," noted Johnson. “My thanks go to Chairman Steve Smith for his efforts to include both DFL and GOP-sponsored bills and craft a final bill that received strong bipartisan support from the entire House of Representatives.”

The Judiciary Policy bill makes a variety of policy changes within the court system that aim to streamline certain filings and procedures. A fiscal note was not provided for the bill, but Rep. Johnson suggested reforms within the bill save the state money. “Our courts remain critically underfunded,” said Johnson. “This bill makes reforms that provide efficiencies which should save the state money and allow limited court resources to be spent where they make the most impact.”
