Legislative Public Safety Chairs Continue to Examine Metro Gang Strike Force Lapses

ST. PAUL – Five key public safety chairs in the Minnesota Legislature continue to examine issues surrounding lapses in the Metro Gang Strike Force uncovered by the Office of the Legislative Auditor and the Luger Report. These legislators will convene a joint House and Senate hearing on Tuesday, September 22 at 11:30 AM in State Capitol Room 123.

Before the hearing, the committee chairs released the following statement:

“We are committed to a thoughtful, fair and bi-partisan discussion of the important and disturbing allegations uncovered by both the Office of the Legislative Auditor and the Luger Report. Gang prevention and interdiction efforts remain critical to the metro area and the state as a whole. They must remain a priority of both law enforcement and the Legislature.

Throughout the fall and into the 2010 Legislative Session, we will continue a public conversation about this situation. Much of our focus will be on repairing the public trust these allegations have opened by meeting with and seeking input from law enforcement, community leaders, legal experts and advocates. Our common goal is to advance a responsible resolution to these issues and to ensure a similar situation will never happen in the future."
